SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

ART - Art classes are taught once a week by the art teacher.
You will be exploring different media to create a variety of artwork
related to art history. Through painting, drawing and sculpting you
will design your own personal creations. Remember to wear a smock
to art class!

COMPUTER LAB - Computer time is scheduled for
grades K-5 in the Media Center. Children are taught basic computer skills,
word processing, and math and grammar programs appropriate for their
grade level. All Tesago students enjoy this hands-on experience.

GYM - Gym class is taught by our coaches twice a week.
Our gym has a wonderful program of sports and exercise. Some of
the sports you will be playing are soccer, basketball, kickball, dodge-
ball, hockey, speed ball, track and gymnastics. We hope you enjoy
the great gym program Tesago offers.

LIBRARY MEDIA CENTER - The library media center
offers a great choice of thousands of books and many magazines.
Check them out for one week to read for enjoyment or to do research
for your classroom projects. Then it is time to renew or return your
book. You can also find records, audiocassettes and multimedia sets
that have books with tapes in the library. The library has several com-
puters with access to a filtered Internet connection, as well as an
automated catalog to the library’s resources. Kids are welcome all
day at the library media center. So, get ready, get set, READ and
RESEARCH! Parents, we can always use volunteers!

MUSIC - General music classes for grades 1-5 meet twice a
week for a half hour. We learn lots of different things about music and
how it fits into our daily lives. Children in third, fourth, and fifth grades
learn to play recorders. By the end of fifth grade, all students are able
to read music.

CHORUS - All students in grades four and five are welcome
to join chorus. We meet once a week during the school day. The
Tesago Chorus performs two assemblies and two evening concerts
(December and May), which members are required to attend. We also
perform at the Flag Day assembly.
Fifth grade students are eligible to audition to sing in the All County
Chorus. This is a select group of singers from Saratoga and Warren
counties. Approximately five children are selected to represent Tesago.
The music teachers teach the music and chaperone the one day (always
on Saturday) event.

BAND - Instrumental music in Tesago is an option offered to
any fifth grade student. Our music instructor teaches the instruments
in the woodwind, brass, and percussion families. Students are given
half hour weekly lessons. Band begins at the end of January and meets
for 40 minutes once each week. Band members perform an evening
concert in May and several assemblies during the school day.
Children must provide their own instruments. The instructor has
specific information regarding instrumental rentals which she will share
with interested students.

ORCHESTRA - All fourth and fifth grade students have the
opportunity to learn to play an orchestral string instrument. Half hour
weekly lessons are offered to students on violin, viola, cello, or bass.
There is also a 40-minute orchestra rehearsal once a week during
which students gain experience playing in a string ensemble.
The orchestra performs in December and in May at both day
assemblies and night concerts. There are also opportunities for stu-
dents to play solos and in small ensembles.

BREAKFAST PROGRAM - If you did not have time for
breakfast or just skipped it today, come to Tesago’s cafeteria for a deli-
cious breakfast. Each morning you can come down to the cafeteria and
enjoy French toast, cereal, eggs, muffins, and other nutritious foods.
Tesago’s breakfast is great for kids who did not have time to eat at
home. Come join us for a terrific meal!

CAFETERIA - It’s lunch time, and you’re hungry. Where do
you go? The cafeteria! Here you can buy a delicious hot lunch, choose
a deli sandwich made just as you like it, request a tossed salad, or buy
the soup of the day. In addition, if you have room, you may want to buy
ice cream or other snacks that are available in the deli line. Students
purchase food through an automated account. You can find out what is
on the daily lunch menu if you have access to the Internet. Go to our
website address at www.tesago.org. There’s something for everyone in
the Tesago cafeteria.

SCHOOL STORE - The school store is run by Student Council.
Need a pencil, pen, paper, or folder? We’ve got it! We have all the basic
items you need for school as well as some fun and interesting extras. We
are open on special mornings during the school week. We hope everyone
stops by to shop.

D.A.R.E - Drug Abuse Resistance Education is a great program
taught at fifth grade. You will be taught by a real police officer. You will
learn all types of effective ways to resist drugs. At the end of the D.A.R.E.
experience, all fifth graders completing the requirements attend a formal
graduation ceremony.

FIELD DAY - Every spring, Tesago has a great fun-filled field
day. There are field events such as the discus and shot put as well as
track events like the 1200 m. dash, relay races and hurdles.
Following the field day events, Tesago holds a school-wide picnic
for students.

BANANA SPLITS - Family changes due to separation,
divorce, death, or remarriage of a parent are stressful events for
children. Banana splits is an in-school peer support program that
helps children explore, express and understand their feelings.
Through group discussions and activities, they learn that other
children face and learn to cope with similar situations. Grade
level groups meet with the school counselor during lunch every
other week beginning in November and ending in May.
AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
(Not all activities are offered every year)

INTRAMURALS - Intramurals is a great after school program
for fourth and fifth graders! Kids from your grade gather together and
compete in spectacular sports. Intramurals start after school at 2:30 p.m.
each grade level usually meets on a separate day. Get ready to blast into
an action-packed time of fun and sports!

ODYSSEY OF THE MIND - Do you want to think in a creative
way? Do you want to have fun with no limits? Well, join us and test your
imagination. This is a great program that encourages creative problem solv-
ing and thinking. Coaches assemble a team of five or seven students to
choose a problem and later solve it creatively. Finally, the team enters a
local competition to display their creative efforts. Coaches needed.

SKI CLUB - All third, fourth, and fifth graders are welcome to
join our Ski Club. Tesago students team up with Skano students for this
exciting activity. We will ski at West Mountain for six fun-filled weeks
beginning right after Christmas vacation. It gives skiers at all levels a
wonderful opportunity to ski at a reasonable price. Buckle up and enjoy
the slopes with us for a great time!

STUDENT COUNCIL - Classroom representatives from
homerooms in grades four and five are elected for Student Council
each September, and election of officers soon follows. Kids meet
together with the advisors to talk about ways to improve our school.
Student Council plans food drives, collects pennies for charity, and
creates school spirit days. This active group also operates the school
store. The profits help purchase items for the school. It is a very
important organization, so get involved!

“Y” PROGRAM - If your parents work after school hours
and cannot come home until late, then Y-Time is for you. It is an after
school program, run by the local YMCA, for children. During Y-Time
you will play sports & games, do arts & crafts, and go outside on the
playground equipment. To sign up for the Y-Time program, call the
YMCA at 371-2139 ext. 13.

DRAMA CLUB - It’s opening night! The applause, the
excitement, the curtain opens and you’re a STAR!!! The Tesago
Drama Club provides 4th and 5th grade students with the opportunity
to learn about all aspects of live theatre performance. Each year the
club presents a full length play designed especially for elementary age
students. Members will be able to participate in the audition process
and will receive instruction in acting and dance techniques. In addi-
tion, students may choose to participate in one of the many technical
aspects of theatre such as set design, costume design, or sound and
lighting. The club rehearses three days a week after school and runs
for approximately 3½ months. Our hard work culminates with a per-
formance given during the school day for the student body, and one
in the evening for family and friends. This is a great introduction to
the performing arts!

Keep your eyes and ears open for other clubs or activities that may be added during the year.
